Typical 20-Something

So, after that last self-indulgent blog post, let's get back to more productive matters, eh? In my quest to figure out my life, I've spent a lot of time doing research, reading articles, honing my "marketable skills" and the like. Thanks to my literate online friends, I stumbled across an article from the NY Times entitled, "What Is It About 20-Somethings" (Read it here: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/08/22/magazine/22Adulthood-t.html  This lengthy, but enlightening article basically told me one thing: I am a typical 20-something. There's nothing unique about my situation and my participating demographic is basically in the same boat as me.

Amongst all the psychological and medical jargon, author Robin Marantz Henig delves into the new developmental stage of "emerging adulthood" which is the stage me and my fellow 20-somethings are in; post-adolescence, pre-adulthood. Basically, Henig is giving people like me an excuse for being unemployed, soul-seeking, and self-indulgent. There's actually legitimate research that supports this theory, however. With the progression of our society, we have more opportunities to have it all: careers, family, and extracurriculars. We just take a little longer to get there and sometimes have to resort to alternative methods to achieve them. So, it looks like I get a few more years before I really have to be an adult. Either way, hopefully I have a job before I'm thirty.
